PermitRite FIELD GUIDE
Describe the project before asking what is required
A precise description helps the responsible authority direct your questions.
Define the activity
Describe the intended use, work, or business change in plain language. Distinguish construction, occupancy, signage, and operating activities instead of grouping everything as a renovation.
Identify the location
Confirm the municipality and property reference using official records. Keep ownership documents and personal details out of an ordinary website enquiry.
List what changes
Note changes to use, layout, utilities, equipment, public access, or operations. Do not assume a small visible change has no review requirements.
Ask the authority
Use official department contacts to confirm the applicable process. A general checklist cannot determine the requirements for a particular property.
Keep the conversation grounded.
